Exams
The doctors of optometry at Sunshine Eye Clinic work to prevent eye and vision problems by maintaining good vision through periodic examinations. Many eye and vision conditions present no obvious symptoms; therefore, a person may be unaware that a problem exists. This is why early diagnosis and treatment is especially important.
Your examination at Sunshine Eye Clinic includes:
- Tonometry, visual field testing and optic nerve examination for glaucoma
- Biomicroscopy for cataracts, cornea or anterior segment abnormalities
- Ophthalmoscopy (dilated when indicated) for retina and vitreous
- Visual acuity and auto-refraction to help determine your prescription
- Subjective refraction and focusing tests to ensure clear vision
- Eye alignment, muscle balance and coordination for comfortable vision
- Consultation to determine your specific visual requirements
- Health history and review of medications for visual side effects
How long will your examination take?
Your vision and specific conditions are unique. While they, along with other external factors, make it difficult to say exactly how long your examination will take, it’s good to plan on about 1.5 hours. We’re serious about giving you care and attention.
About Dilation
During your examination, your optometrist may recommend dilating your eyes. This allows a more thorough examination of your eye. Dilation may cause temporary light sensitivity and/or some blurring, affecting your ability to drive. Please arrange for someone to transport you home following your eye exam. If you wear contact lenses, please bring your backup glasses or sunglasses to use until the dilation has worn off.
