Periodic optometric examinations are an important part of routine preventive health care. Many eye and vision conditions present no obvious symptoms, therefore, individuals are often unaware that a problem exists. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for maintaining good vision and, when possible, preventing permanent vision loss.
The doctors of optometry at Sunshine Eye Clinic are independent primary health care providers who examine, diagnose, treat and manage diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and its associated structures as well as diagnose related systemic conditions. Their focus is to fulfill the vision and eye care needs of the people of the Ozarks through clinical care, research and education, all of which enhance the quality of life.
Your examination includes test such as:
Tonometry, visual field testing and optic nerve examination for glaucoma
Biomicroscopy for cataracts, cornea or anterior segment abnormalities
Ophthalmoscopy (dilated when indicated) for retina and vitreous
Visual acuity and auto-refraction to help determine your prescription
Subjective refraction and focusing tests to ensure clear vision
Eye alignment, muscle balance and coordination for comfortable vision
Consultation to determine your specific visual requirements
Health history and review of medications for visual side effects
If your are a new patient to Sunshine Eye Clinic or have a personal or family history of eye health problems, your optometrist may suggest dilating your eyes. With your pupils dilated, the optometrist has a better opportunity to examine the inside of your eye and give you the most thorough eye health examination possible. Dilation may cause you to experience glare, some sensitivity to light and some blurring of your near vision and may affect your ability to drive. You may need to arrange for someone to come along with you to drive home. Most people experience few, or no problems or side effects. If you wear contact lenses, bring your backup glasses or sunglasses to use until the dilation has worn off.
Whether you are here for a routine eye exam or an exam for glasses, contacts, low vision conditions or a child's yearly check-up before school, you can enjoy the assurance that a complete visual health assessment will be performed at Sunshine Eye Clinic for every type of eye examination.
